King Of The Hills 2009

Our first annual King of the Hills competition was a success. A couple hundred people showed up and threw down despite the 90+ degree temperature. Three divisions, beginner, intermediate and advanced/sponsored came and conquered the HQ's setup. The much heated advanced division played out with Chareston's own Salih Muhammad taking the crown. Salih proudly accepted the $500 loot , the Don Pendleton signed trophy art, decks and other swag. 2nd place in the advanced went to Shawn Potvin from Marmet,WV and 3rd went to Mike Berdis from Erie,PA. We are working toward a bigger and better K.O.T.H. for 2010 with a higher payout. Thanks to all that came out and sponsored, judged,MC'd and supported the event. King Of The Hills 2009

What started out as an in-state competition has turned out to be open to anyone that wants to come. We got numerous emails from people all over myspace asking if they could enter from another state. We're not out to bum anyone out so we decided to make it open to whomever wants to come and thrash it up in the mountain state. This is the first year of the K.O.T.H. comp and we are proud to co-sponsor this along with VOX footwear. There will be cash prizes along with tons of merch. The contest will be held at our HQ team park April 25th 2009 starting at 12pm. You must pre-register before noon so either get here early that day or stop by and sign up. If your out of state or far away you can mail in your entry fee of $10 and personal info to: PawnShop Skateboards 12507 Maccorkle ave Chesapeake, WV 25315. For more info call 304.550.1040 See you here the 25th!

Say HELL-o to Shawn Potvin

Who in the Hell is Shawn Michael Potvin?

haha i am some extremely good looking blonde boy from the snowy coast from southern maine, i skate obviously hah or we wouldn't be doing this but, i have a good attitude according to other people I dont notice it because thats just how I am I guess. im 5'10 I weigh about 165 . I enjoy long walks on the beach and picnics in the park with a lovely young miss. I love skateboarding more than anything it never gets old to me at all. I have fun every single time I step onto a board, if I didn't I wouldn't be doing it still.

Why in the Hell did you move to WV?

haha long story. well... my mom and my dad broke up when I was in like 1st grade or something like that. and he moved to texas for like 7 years. I hadnt seen him and he invited me to visit and I did. then like a year after I went and saw him he moved closer to maine in hopes to see me more. (west virginia) so when that happend my brother moved down here with him. things didnt work out and he ended up kicking my brother out and he wasnt able to live on his own so me and my mom moved down here to help him out because he was still in highschool. and thats how I ended up here.

Why in the Hell do so many people love you?

I didn't know that was the case, but if I have to guess I'm thinking its because Im really nice to people. I try to be as positive as possible. I basically treat people how I'd like to be treated, and it doesn't always work out that way because I have some haters out there. But I'm just thinking that their just jealous.

How in the Hell are you so fluid and smooth? (Skating)
haha o jeez...how to explain..? ONE TIP: SHOE LACE BELT! haha no im just kidding haha....well I cant really explain it I mean you just have to practice alot if you want to get stuff good. but I swear it just comes natural to me. like I can just think of a trick and do it. like its weird I dont like go out of my way to look steezy like some people do...it just happens. but im my opinion I dont think my tricks look that good. haha so dont think im an egomaniac. haha I just pretend to be haha.

What are some of your fav tricks?

oh shit.... I Love every trick..there are sooo many. but if I had to pick a couple I guess I could go with crooks(easiest steeziest grind out there), blunt variations. everything out of blunts are baller! 3 flips...they are kinda getting over rated l love them. lasers!!!!!! love that trick. kickflips every way, they are one of the easiest flip trick but I could just roll around all day and do them over and over. just getting them higher and more sticky footed and boned haha.

What are some of your fav Charleston Spots?

oh DAYUM!!!!! love the charleston spots dude.... lets see. we got the marble banks. thats me and rigsbys spot right there, we got capital highschool that spots is the perfect place for someone looking to do lines or skate stairs or do a combo and puttin the stairs in the line....we have the midtown mall double sets....wooo that spots a bust most of the time but if you get lucky and get that one time where you dont get kicked out.shiiiit I could just skate there all day. theres so many options. the courthouse...kinda like a manny pad slash ledge..that spot is knarley.. I Dont know what it is about that spot but I cant front big that. haha like ive done it down better things its just that spot makes me not land it... I think theres like a no shawn front big spell onthat place or something...haha later days...ill get it. bb&t parking garage...that spot looks like a joke but its one of the hardest spots ive ever skated. its like a curved curb with like a lil bank on one side. I know it sounds like a bitch spot. but that place is fun and challenging.... dude just skating around charleston you find some of the best spots. I love just skating around skating everything. its just a great feeling.

How did you hook up with PawnShop?

well its kinda funny how that happend. I moved down here like a couple days before my 17th birthday. and I went into this place called pawnmax to buy a board...I got a girl rick howard. it was sick but anyways when I went in there one of the guys behind th counter told me about this like skate thing in charleston in a couple days. so I went there..I was kinda nervous to skate at first haha like I didnt know I was allowd to cuz it said demo or something haha but I got up courage and started skating and like just started doing my thing and then next thing I Knew it I was talking to brian carr about getting on the team... first day I Met him he handed me 2 new decks! hes like one of the nicest people I have ever met dude. if you know him you already know that but that was for the peeps that dont. haha but yeah thats how it all happend.

Old Matt: oh damn..haha happiness! realness. dude hes is seriously sooo effing kool hes like 30 something has a wife and 2 kids and still rips . he is never down. always sooo happy and laughing and positive.(dont tell him to pick you up something at the store around christmas time though) haha he treats me like im his son and just rips. hes a real insiration. I hope to be like him when I get older

S-K-A-T-E: love skate. but I really dont like losing. I dont like to admit it but I really get upset when I lose hahah im a sore loser. no grudges though!

Marmet: my home tizzown! M TOWN HOLDING IT DOWN BABY!!! haha
Cheese: hahahaha you really wanna know what just popped in my head!? haha Daniel filming Colby. explination for those who dont know: colbys nickname is cheese and we have a filmer named Daniel whos nickname is crakka CHEESE AND CRAKKAS!
